An Interview with the Sawyer / Artisian

In order for customers to get to you know us better, I created a little Interview with Ben.

At what age did you decide you wanted to work with wood?

Answer - I've worked with wood all my life. I ran a firewood business when I was a teen and worked in the logging and forestry industry on and off for most of my life.

What made you decide to go into Welding?

Answer - I was looking for a career with a more steady income. Welding provided more opportunities than staying in the logging industry,

Are you glad you bought your sawmill?

Answer - It was one of the best investments I've ever made. Other than you, my wife.

Good Answer! What would you say is one con of owning a sawmill?

Answer - There is no sawdust fairy to do all the cleanup.

What is your favorite type of wood to work with?

Answer - That's a tough question. For interior projects, I prefer maple. For exterior projects I prefer Cedar.

What do you hope to see with this business?

Answer - It's my hope to create products that will last, and have customers that keep coming back.

What does the future hold?

Answer - We're just getting started, but we'll get there, one board foot at a time.

What are you doing to be "green".

Answer - We aim to run a zero waste mill. Every scrap of the log is used in one way or another.
